Last night was our 4th annual Corn Maze adventure. This year, Matt, Margie and I had decided it would be fun to go early so that we had enough time to check out the market and the town. I also wanted to get my hands on some of the delectable cinnamon buns there.
St. Jacobs has a large Mennonite population and they sell a lot of produce and baked goods at the market. They make the best cinnamon buns ever. The thing is you have to get there really early or else there won't be any to buy. They sell out early and consistently.
I triumphed and managed to get my hands on four! Yippee! It all came at a price though. Friday night I had Heather over for a British movie night. It ended up going a bit late and the short of it is that I didn't get to sleep till 2 am and I had to be up at 8! So I was tired before we started but I tried to not think about it.
Matt, Margie and I started off at the market. We had lunch there and wandered through all the yummy produce and goodies. After that we met up with Frances and Jen in St. Jacobs and walked the main street for awhile before meeting up with the rest of the corn maze gang at the Lego store in the outlet mall.
From there we went off to Picards peanuts to stock-up. We normally run late on this outing and are able to leave Picards and go straight for dinner but this time we were ahead of time and had some to kill before dinner. We wandered through the town before arriving at 5:30 at the Stone Crock for dinner.
Everyone stuffed themselves silly in anticipation of a lot of running around later. We headed out in a convoy for the corn maze which lies outside of St. Jacobs. It was a bit tough keeping that many cars together but around 8 we arrived at the maze.
We entered the maze around 8:15 and my group (Paul, Mike and Jane) escaped around 10. We got stuck in the hard part (there was a sign to let you know that you were entering the more difficult part of the maze which could take up to 1 hour and 45 minutes to escape) for about 45 minutes. In the end we had to use the cheat sheet to get out because it was nearing 10 and we were still stuck at sign post 13.
Paul and I wandered around for awhile on our own. We were doing pretty good for a while finding sign after sign but in the end we got stuck in the area around post 13 and met up with Mike and Jane. The four of us joined forces but just got stuck wandering in circles. We even tried to navigate using the farm lights, big dipper, moon as markers. Needless to say that didn't get us far.
Eventually we ran into another group of people and they had an extra copy of the cheat sheet that they gave us and we used that to find our way out.
You can see some of the photos from the day on my Flickr page which is linked on the right side of the blog.
